Originally hailing from Pittsburgh, my wife, Ellen, and I lived in California and New Jersey prior to moving to the Triangle in 2000. While many areas of the Triangle were quite appealing, we found a wonderful, new construction home in the Wake Forest area. My advice for newcomers moving to the Triangle – explore all the area communities to find the perfect place for your family.
We opened BottleMixx in the fall of 2012. It is a craft beer and wine shop that boasts more than 1,100 labels of craft beer and 700 labels of wine, most of which you will not find in the grocery stores. Our shop hosts many fun events that feature craft beer and wine for tasting. We also feature a small tasting area with 10 rotating taps and 16 self-dispensing bottles of wine. We have plenty of cooler space so there is always cold beer and chilled wine.
We are proud to support the Wake County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). We match dollar for dollar all contributions by our customers and, as of Dec. 2013, have directly donated $14,000 to SPCA.
My tip for success for local businesses would be to get involved with SCORE (a small business mentoring group) as you develop your business plan and model. Also, pay close attention to cash flow and utilize social media as much as possible. Most importantly, have fun with your customers.Our favorite things to do in the Triangle – we love to travel, eat and drink, cook, relax, and take care of our dogs. We are fans of the Carolina Hurricanes and the Pittsburgh Steelers, but when it comes to ACC sports, we are like Switzerland – neutral!
