I moved to NC about five years ago and live in Silverton in Cary with my husband Jason and our two children, Wacey and Bailey.

Both Jason and I were in the Air Force and living in254777-orig Florida when Jason decided to go back to school. My work as a Network Engineer had me travelling around the country, but I wanted to find something more creative and went into pastry school. Meanwhile, TheBakingPixie.com has taken off with word of mouth and social media, and what started out with my first wedding cake for family is now keeping me busy with 3-10 custom cakes weekly. I love making unique masterpieces for others to enjoy.

After living in Cary’s Silverton for six months we still didn’t know anyone in our cul-de-sac, so I took the initiative and invited all the neighbors to come over for a barbecue. The HOA treasurer approached me and asked me to head up the Social Committee, which has been a wonderful  way to meet others in the neighborhood. Another mom, Jennifer Gilmore and I started a neighborhood Facebook Page to get things rolling. There is a wide range of ages and backgrounds in Silverton, and we’re getting more younger families. We have couples who are grandparents and we have college-aged kids, so there’s tons of trooper2-origreferences for babysitting or pet sitting.

If you’re new to the area I highly recommend taking advantage of social media. There are many neighborhood groups and moms groups. You can ask about different neighborhoods you may consider as well as schools. For me it has opened up so many relationships and friendships in the neighborhood for our family.

We love Cary especially Downtown. There is much growth here which translates to many opportunities for everyone. I love Chatham Wine and The Perfect Piece Furniture with its always-changing vendor booths, including handmade soaps, cool vintage pieces and more.

I love seeing Cary grow and change, love the breweries and the theatre plus there are so many great choices for dinner. It’s vibrant! Everything is lit up at night, people are walking around and riding  bikes.

Our family has synced our calendars because there is SO much to do in Cary and the Triangle. We put all the choices on our calendar and then pick what we want to do. Time-Management has been our Secret to Success! One of our favorite things to do as a family is to make cake deliveries in our new convertible. I deliver for free in Cary and Brier Creek and we constantly discover new areas, new stores and fun things to do just by simply driving around.
