We moved to the Triangle in 2008 to fulfill our longing to be self-employed. Our home in Wisconsin was a small tourist destination and we were looking for the opportunities presented in an urban environment. We rented initially to get a feel for the area and ended up moving to Fuquay-Varina because the houses are a great value. It adds a bit to driving, but the traffic is not an issue for us.

My advice for newcomers is to find a house you love and then get out and enjoy the Triangle.

When we started Blue Moon Estate Sales, our goal was to help ease the transitions in life we all face and to standardize the estate sale industry. What we found was a business model that could be taught to others to enable their self-employment. There are now Blue Moon Estate Sales franchises throughout most of North Carolina, as well as parts of South Carolina and Texas. In the Raleigh area alone, we conducted 62 estate sales last year, helping people to downsize or liquidate an estate after the loss of a loved one. We do free consultations and are happy to explain the estate sale process.

My top tip for success is to work hard, pay attention to detail, and provide excellent customer service. Our favorite things to do in the Triangle are to go to events at the PNC Arena, the Farmer’s Market, the Weekend Flea Market at the fairgrounds, and the Art Museum . . . There are so many wonderful things to do. Our favorite restaurant is Park City Grille in downtown Apex.
