I moved to the Triangle in 1995, after years in the Northeast and Southwest. Although my original plan was to move on to a more “cosmopolitan” city, I saw opportunities here and young people getting ahead. Now, almost 20 years later, the Triangle – and Raleigh in particular – has grown into the city I would have moved to, way back then. Better yet, my wife, Cindy, and I both feel as if we have helped shape the growth here, with our gallery and our commitment to the arts. Despite the small city feel of each part of the Triangle, the events, services, and offerings are equal to those of much bigger cities. My advice to newcomers is don’t get stuck in your own little corner. Get out and see what is happening in the neighboring towns.
Adam Cave Fine Art is a second-floor gallery located in an historic, 120-year-old building in the heart of downtown Raleigh. The gallery opened in 2008 and now represents over 25 national, regional, and local artists. Along with the art, we also offer museum-quality picture framing, and in-home art hanging services. We encourage everyone to visit us during the monthly First Friday Art Walk in downtown Raleigh. The gallery provides free appetizers, refreshments, and wine and stays open until 9 p.m. It is a great opportunity to get familiar with our artists.
My top tip for success is to believe in what you do and stick with it. My favorite thing to do in the Triangle is spend weekend mornings at the NC State Fairgrounds flea market, with an occasional picnic at the JC Raulston Arboretum across the street. My favorite restaurant is a toss-up between Caffe Luna, Bida Manda, and Capital Club 16.
