DeLisa Alexander

Executive Vice President & Chief People Officer, Red Hat, Inc.

I was born and raised in Virginia. After law school, my husband and I decided we wanted to plant ourselves in the Triangle. We felt Raleigh would be an ideal location for us to become part of a growing and dynamic community, to be able to have robust careers while also raising a family.

Raleigh is a great place to live, work, and play. People here are really friendly and welcoming to newcomers — this is the kind of place where people come for a visit and often end up deciding to make it their new home! Check out the many free and public amenities, like our wonderful museums, parks, and greenways. There’s so much to love about this region: the weather, the reasonable commutes, the variety of school choices and universities. What you’ll appreciate most really depends on where you’re coming from.

I am the executive vice president and chief people officer of Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of open source software solutions. We offer award-winning support, training, and consulting services. An S&P 500 company, Red Hat counts over 90 percent of the Fortune 500 as customers. If you thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy, innovative environment, we have some great career opportunities at Red Hat. Come shape the future of technology – and work with the most passionate, creative people in the world.

My top tip for success is to look for work that you can be passionate about, a place that you have the opportunity to make a difference every day. My favorite thing to do in the Triangle is to be outside enjoying the weather, whether it’s watching the kids at their sporting events, boating on Jordan Lake, or sitting by the fire pit watching the sunset. My favorite restaurant is Humble Pie. It has a unique atmosphere and welcoming hosts.
