We moved here from Sarasota, Florida in 1997 when my husband accepted a position at UNC-Chapel Hill. We chose this area because of the quality of life, many outstanding schools and universities, lack of traffic, and great climate.

My advice for newcomers is once you get settled in, get out and explore the ARTS! We have an abundance of world-class museums, symphonies, theatres, and ballets right here in the Triangle. There’s so much to experience here that it may take a few years to get to everything the Triangle has to offer, but it’s worth it.

The Girl Scouts as an organization is the premiere leadership experience for girls of all ages (K-12). We serve 41 counties and have over 28,000 girls participating in our programs. Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

My top tip for success is to be genuine, sincere, and help others whenever you can! The Girl Scouts needs adult volunteers. We have over 1,000 girls who are waiting to join Girl Scouts but can’t because we need more volunteers to help form troops and organize activities. We’re looking for adults who may have been Girl Scouts when they were younger and can share some of those leadership experiences to make a difference in a child’s life. My favorite thing to do in the Triangle is to go camping and fishing on Falls Lake and to attend Canes games. Our favorite restaurant is Poole’s Downtown Diner.
