I came to Raleigh to attend N.C. State University. After graduating, I found job in Research Triangle Park and have been here ever since. Raleigh has everything a big metropolitan area has, but on a smaller scale. To fully appreciate the area you have to get out and explore.
At the Junior League of Raleigh, we like to say we are an organization of trained volunteers. We promote volunteerism, develop the potential of women, and work to improve the community. Today our focus is on youth. We work with AventWest Children’s Mentoring, the BackPack Buddies program, Brentwood Boys & Girls Club, Helping Horse, Community Learning Center at Heritage Park, Kids on the Block, SAFEchild, and StepUp Ministry. Every year we have two major fundraisers, one each in the spring and fall. Our oldest continuous fundraiser is the Bargain Box in Cameron Village, where we sell gently used merchandise. The proceeds help support our programs and provide thousands of dollars of vouchers annually to agencies serving those in need.
My top tip for success? Don’t get so busy that you don’t have time to help others. You will find that when you need someone, the people that you helped along the way will have your back. My favorite thing to do in the Triangle is for my husband and I to take our boat out to Falls Lake and find a nice hideaway cove, lay anchor, and just relax. My favorite restaurant is The Chop House.
