We moved to the Triangle from Greensboro in 1967 when Raleigh was much smaller. My dad was transferred to Raleigh with North Carolina National Bank, better known today as Bank of America. When you move here, don’t believe everything you read in the magazines and online. Find a good real estate agent who knows the different parts of the Triangle and spend time looking around until you find the area that feels like home.

Lawson Insurance Group, Inc. has been serving the Triangle since 1974, when my father started the agency. I joined in 1990. We now have two offices in Raleigh and one in Durham. My brothers Miller and Michael each run an office. About 75 percent of our business is homeowners, auto, boat, and life insurance; and the rest is commercial. We pride ourselves in helping our clients manage risk. We spend time learning about their specific situation and only then will we offer a solution. We offer a painless but passionate review of your current insurance program free of charge.

My top tip for success is to be yourself. God made you specifically to play a very significant role in the large story we live in, so just try and be all of who you were made to be. Balance is important. Don’t work all the time. Make time for family, for fun, and to continue to learn more about yourself and your business. Serve others first, then it’s not work. Most of my favorite things to do in the Triangle involve sports: UNC football and basketball, the Carolina Hurricanes and Durham Bulls, the Fourth of July fireworks at the fairgrounds; clay shooting and golf. My favorite restaurants are Hayes Barton Café and Dessertery — it’s owned by my cousin, Sullivans Steakhouse, Las Tres Magueyes, Milton’s Pizza and Manchesters.
